Jax is a drug that affects the Psy mind. In precise micro dosages that match metabolism and weight, the drug heightens Psy abilities and removes emotion, including a conscience. However, addiction occurs within a short number of usages. It can lead to chronic childlike obedience, imprinting on someone, and brain damage.

Arrows[]

The drug was developed specifically for the Arrows to make them better, faster, deadlier,[1] erasing the personality without erasing the mind.[2] Ming LeBon’s used it regularly on the Arrows to keep them compliant, remove any conscience-driven questions about assassinations, and at peak performance.

Eventually, Judd Lauren realized the drug was suppressing his conscience and more easily controlled. He began to deliberately make mistakes while on Jax and claimed it gave him dreams, which Silent Psy aren't supposed to have. Since so little is known about his subdesignation, they took him and several others with related abilities other off it. Aden Kai and Vasic Zen also found ways to trick Ming into believing the squad was still taking their dosage.

Changelings[]

When used on or by Changelings, Jax causes parts of their bodies get stuck mid-shift - parts of them human and others animal - and can't be reversed. In at least one case, Jax use by a changeling caused fatal convulsions.[3]

Street Use[]

There are quite a few Jax junkies around the San Francisco area because uncontrolled use allows Psy to experience emotion despite conditioning or dissonance, but at the expense of their psychic abilities leading to insanity and eventual death.[1] It also erodes memory.[4]

Withdrawal[]

Jax withdrawal can sometimes cause sudden cardiac failure.[5]

Trivia[]

  • Nikita was drugged with a variant of the drug in Bonds of Justice. It limited her telepathy so she could not call for help or reach out to her presumably captured daughter.
  • Vasic was able to teleport his body mere millimeters to get the drug out of his system.
