Andrew "Drew" Kincaid is the sole SnowDancer tracker, brother to Riley and Brenna Kincaid, and mate to Indigo Riviere. He and Indigo are the main protagonists in the seventh book of the main series, Play of Passion.

Biography[]

Childhood[]

As a pup, Drew acted so sweet and well-behaved that no one thought to keep an eye on him and as soon as the opportunity presented itself, he'd do things like escape the stone-walled playground. His mom called him her "loving baby."[1]

He named his teddy bear Platypus, not knowing what a platypus was. He still has the toy, although it's missing most of its fur and an eye and the ears nibbled half off, but it's neatly mended.[2] Indigo added an eye-patch embroidered with a skull and crossbones.

Andrew was young when he lost both his parents, Acton and Maeve Kincaid, while they protected SnowDancer in their roles as soldiers. He and his two siblings, Brenna and Riley, were fostered within the pack. Their foster parents were great, having raised their own kids, they understood what they needed and that they couldn’t replace their parents.  The three of them loved their foster parents for giving them a home, but they bonded most with each other, Brenna and Drew looking instinctively to Riley as the oldest for guidance.[3] Together, both brothers looked after their youngest sibling, Brenna.

Juvenile[]

Drew was very short until he hit a growth spurt the summer between his 14th and 15th years. That same summer he had his first relationship with a human girl named Meadow Sanderson up until she dumped him for the quarterback. Since then, he's never wanted for female companionship.[4]

SnowDancer[]

Having been born with the uncanny ability to track fellow SnowDancers, even better than the alpha, it was obvious what role Drew was meant to play in the pack. Once he was old enough to understand what that meant, he had to either learn to deal with the responsibility or give it up so someone else could be trained, but he never even considered walking away; if he ever went rogue, he wants someone like him to stop him before he could harm a loved one.[5]

When Brenna was attacked by Santano Enrique, he went off the rails for a while, which stressed his relationship with his little sister. As she healed, so did Drew and Riley.

In many ways, he's outside of the normal hierarchy[1] and functioned as a senior-level soldier when at the main den, stepping in to manage the volatile San Diego area for ten months. After Dieter's betrayal, he became Hawke Snow's spymaster and developed a network of contacts both within and without the pack to ensure that another such incident wouldn't happen. He does the rounds of SnowDancer territory and the satellite dens all throughout the state of California, listening, making connections, solving problems, and reporting back to Hawke.

Mating[]

Physical Appearance[]

He is 6'2" and over 200 lbs.[6] with a muscular but graceful build. He has lake blue eyes, golden skin, and dimples.[7]

His wolf has silver fur and copper eyes.[8]

Personality and Traits[]

Drew is very intelligent, cunning even, with a high degree of social awareness. As a tracker and a wolf, he needs to be a full member of the pack and he couldn't have that if people were afraid of him, so he learned to appear harmless.[5] He’s a playful, charming guy who's also very good at hiding his true thoughts and feelings. Quick to make friends, everyone knows, likes, and respects him, which means they're likely to open up to him and share information. He doesn’t abuse the trust others give him so readily. Underneath that easy-going exterior, though, he's even more stubborn than Riley.[9]

Family means a lot to him. After losing his parents, he grew very close to Riley and Brenna.

Abilities and Skills[]

His social skills are incredible. He is able to relate to everyone regardless of rank and dominance which helps him keep track of what's happening around the den, functioning as Hawke's eyes and ears; he also controlled the volatile San Diego sector of SnowDancer’s territory for Hawke for awhile.[10] This also makes him a good negotiator which is why he is the liaison between SnowDancer and WindHaven.

He is the tracker of the SnowDancers since he was born with the uncanny ability to track his packmates. This means if wolves go rogue, he has to catch them and - if necessary - take them down. Andrew's easy-going nature hides the dominant predator he is most of the time, but he ripped Santano Enrique apart with his bare hands while in human form.[11] In his role as tracker, he's only ever had to execute one wolf who went rogue, an elder with a disease that affected the mind. Drew knows that he wouldn't have wanted to harm his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren.[5]

Although he's no expert, he's good with cars.[12]

Relationships[]

Brenna Kincaid[]

After losing their parents, the three siblings have always been close as family's especially important to Drew. She gets along well with her middle sibling, mainly because of his goofy personality, although he's always been able to push her buttons.[13] He and Riley have always babied and loved her and she could talk them into nearly anything.[13] Before she mated, he was particularly bloodthirsty when it came to anyone who was interested in his baby sister.[14] After her abduction, he’d run himself into exhaustion every night for weeks.[15] Once she'd recovered, his protective side became smothering and led to some nasty fights, but they found an equilibrium and are as close as ever.

Hawke Snow[]

They're friends and like to yank each other's chains. To make sure that Drew can handle the burden of tracker for the pack, Hawke makes him talk about it on a regular basis.[5]

Indigo Riviere[]

They got mated in 2081.

Judd Lauren[]

At first, Andrew hated Judd simply for sharing the same race with Santano Enrique, the man who abducted and tortured his baby sister. Understanding family and loyalty, Judd tended to ignore Drew's vitriol. Things changed drastically after Judd stopped hiding his claws,[16] proving he could keep Brenna safe, as well as saving Drew's life with his Tk-Cell ability.[17]

Mercy Smith[]

They see each other as brother and sister.[9]

Riley Kincaid[]

After losing their parents, the three siblings have always been close as family's especially important to Drew, who likes to tweak his older brother's tail. When it comes to Brenna, though, they usually are in agreement.

To make sure that Drew can handle the burden of tracker for the pack, Riley makes him talk about it on a regular basis.[5]

Sienna Lauren[]

Drew sees Sienna as a little sister.[15] She was so closed off and guarded when she first came to the den, Drew discovered she had a sweet-tooth and helped her indulge it until she came to trust him; he calls her "sugar pie."[7]

Tomás[]

One of his best friends.[18]

Trivia[]

  • He was shot twice and almost died both times. (Once in Caressed by Ice, once in Play of Passion.)
  • His rank in the pack is hard to define as his dominance has grown steadily over the years and continues to do so.
  • He's a total bed hog.[6]
  • To get through to Drew when he did something dumb as a kid, Riley would throw him in the lake.[9]
  • He is not a morning person and says that rational people wake up at noon.[5]
  • When Sienna and Hawke mated, he suggested dancing girls for the mating ceremony.[19]
  • He often goes commando, believing underwear to be overrated.[20]

Quotes[]

"Andrew, I love you, but you're the most sneaky, cunning wolf I've ever known-"[6]

…he sucked in a breath of the bracing air and yelled out to the night, “I know every part of her, warts and all!  And I still adore her!”[21]

Drew was never quiet. He was energy and life and mischief. -Indigo[22]

Appearances[]

Slave to Sensation[]

When Brenna goes missing, Andrew and Riley want to start hunting Psy.

Caressed by Ice[]

When Brenna rushes to a murder scene, Andrew picks her up in a bear hug to stop her until she lashes out with her claws to force him to let her go, shocking him since he still thinks of her as his sweet baby sister who wouldn't hurt a fly.[23] His overprotectiveness, combined with Riley's, becomes smothering and they put her under house arrest to prevent her from seeing Judd.[24] Tension between them escalates[13] as he does everything in his power to keep her away from Judd, who he hates for being Psy, including turning laser tag into a full-contact sport.[25]

It's little wonder that Brenna assumes Drew, or Riley, is behind an attempt on Judd's life. In the aftermath, Judd stops hiding his lethality and shows his metaphorical claws to the brothers, which reassures them that he can take care of Brenna and their antagonism subsides.[16]

Andrew manages to shove Brenna out of the way of a bullet, but takes it himself through the heart. In a desperate bid to save his life, Judd discovers that his Tk-C ability can be used to heal, taking cells from other parts of Drew's body to repair the damage.[17]

Hostage to Pleasure[]

Dorian Christensen tells him tells him that he's been keeping an eye on Brenna, who complains that she now has three morons for older brothers as Dorian basically adopted her after losing his own sister, Kylie, to Santano Enrique. Drew can scent Ashaya Aleine nearby and gets a knife thrown by his head for jerking Dorian's chain over her. He also warns Dorian that there were Psy on the edge of DarkRiver territory seeming to be searching for something or someone.[26]

Branded by Fire[]

Andrew tries to pump Riley for information on who he was with the night before and Riley tries to distract him by implying that Judd was rough with Brenna. The ploy fails because both siblings quickly realize something's up with Riley.[27]

When Mercy goes to the den to find Riley, Andrew escorts her to his room. She asks why he's being so helpful, even when she's snarling at him, and he tells her that watching her keep Riley off balance. He also warns her that while Riley would die for any of his people, he doesn't expect anyone to do the same for him.[28]
